Wake before dawn.
Glazed, unobservant eyes,
Withdrawn from rest,
Fizzle around their edges
With the first sip
Of the acid in your mug
That's been sitting in the pot
For fourty-eight hours.
It acts like a drug
And suddenly the view
Is a little more tolerable
With little slivers of light
Slipping through
The shadows from the shutters.
And, as your engine roars,
Creeps out the driveway
With little traction on the snow,
Like it's mid January,
At fourty below,
Headlights skim the faces
Of your sleeping neighbours
Through their blinded windows.
And as the cloud-covered sky
Slowly brightens to grey,
Last night 80 000 lives
were simply washed away...

The worst part is, some of my close friends got hit...
I live in KL (malaysia) now...and some of my closest friends were in Phuket when the tsunami's hit...they're lucky to be alive. lots of them are in the hospital...no one dead that I know personally, but it was close...
This poem almost made me cry when I read the end. Just because I'm so close to all of this...horror.
Thanks for the really moving ending to this piece. Great Job
